The first step is to complete an Interest to Adopt application.

Once you submit the completed application form we will review your suitability and if it sounds like you and the cat are a good match then we will give you a call to discuss your application further and arrange a no-obligation meet and greet.

If, after the meet and greet, both parties are happy to proceed with adoption then the next step is for us to come out and do a property check, just to make sure it is suitable, safe and secure!

This is when we arrange for you to meet up with the cat and his/hers foster parents. You get to spend some time with the cat and ask plenty of questions. It is important that all members of the household are present for the meeting. Adopting an animal is a big commitment and we want you to take your time discussing the decision with everyone involved. For this reason, we do not conduct on the spot adoptions.

This is a question we find we are asked quite often. Some people think that because they are willing to adopt/save a rescue pet that they shouldn’t have to pay for them.

All our animals, as a minimum, are vet checked, vaccinated, microchipped, desexed and flead and wormed while in foster care. They are all fed super premium diets and should they require any additional veterinary work such as dental procedures, orthopaedic surgery, medications or any behavioural training then this is paid for by us. We are not government funded, so in order to make the rescue process sustainable, we need to try and recoup these costs, at least in part, by charging an adoption fee.

The adoption fee will very rarely cover the full amount of what the animal has actually cost us. Our adoption fee is not negotiable and is to be paid in full at the time of adoption. All money received by us, whether in donations or fees, is used for the benefit of our animals. We are a not for profit charity.

If you compare our adoption fee to the average rate you’d pay for a puppy from a breeder, which likely still needs to be vaccinated and desexed, it becomes clear that rescue pets are actually a bargain!

We think it’s a pretty special gift that in adopting a rescue pet you are allowing us to save another.

Yes. We offer a 72 hour cooling off period. If the adoption doesn’t work out for any reason, we will take the cat back for a 75% refund within those 72 hours* We will also take the cat back at any point during their lifetime should you become unable to care for them, however we will not be able to reimburse the adoption fee.

All our cats are vet checked, desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and up to date with flea and worming prevention prior to adoption.

We have three touch points; one day, one week and one month post adoption. We will contact you to ensure the transition is progressing well. After this, we still encourage you to keep in touch with us should you wish to. The extended PUR family is a supportive and inclusive community.

We are here to offer advice and guidance to you for the lifetime of your adoptive pet.

No. All our animals are in foster care rather than in a penned shelter environment as it allows them greater interaction with people and can encourage healthy socialisation with other domestic pets and human contact. It also gives us the chance to learn about each animal’s personality and work out what their ideal forever home would entail. We believe this gives our animals the best chance at a smooth transition into their forever home.

No. We are based in Melbourne and like to keep our foster carers and adopters within a reasonable distance. We feel very strongly about being involved in all our animals transition from pound to foster home and from foster home to forever home. It is important that we are close by should our foster parents or adopters need our assistance.

These animals have already come from difficult lives and it is our responsibility to ensure we do everything we can to make sure that the adoptive home they go to is in fact their last and that the foster home they go to is a safe and suitable environment that will assist with their rehabilitation process.
